The Laingsburg Middle School’s Burg Broadcast is a student video journalism and yearbook development program. The student team that participated in the showcase were part of the leadership for the program this year. This included Yearbook Editors-in-Chief Leilani Johnson and Claire Sanderlin, Video Editors-in-Chief Sydney Pohold, and Executive Producer Danielle Winans.

Mrs. Angela Clark-Pohold, Laingsburg Middle School math and sciences teacher, shared that the class is a combination of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students and due to this mixed grade level approach students can take the class for multiple years. “This has allowed for student leaders to rise and help teach and learn from one another. It also allows me to take more of an advisory role and give students more ownership of their learning and the direction they want to take with their student media program, ” said Mrs. Clark-Pohold.

The students learn photography, videography, interviewing, editing, and production skills. They produce a live news show each week presented to middle school students during FLEX classes.

The news show includes school announcements, student created videos, interviews, weather, and sports. Students can learn and hone their skills on responsible television production and meeting deadlines as well as learn yearbook design and publication.

“Broadcast has helped me with my confidence both in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes. I have learned how to do so many things like shoot video, take pictures, editing, script writing, and other computer skills. These skills have also helped me in other classes and with being able to help others use technology,” said 8th grader Sydney Pohold.
