This was Mars Elementary school teacher Renee Peddie’s third year taking students to participate in the Student Technology Showcase. Her team of second grade students shared how they use various forms of hardware and software to enhance learning and solve problems.

They demonstrated the use of technology devices and programs including:

  • iPads (apps: Scratch Jr, Kodable, Google Classroom/Sheets/Docs, etc)
  • Osmo
  • Little Bits
  • Skype (national & international)
  • Ozobots
  • Rosie’s Runtime

The students use the Engineering Design Process to meet their personal learning goals and talk about how and why they use technology in the classroom.

Their motto is: “Technology is not a toy. It is a tool!” Thinking of the technology in this way, students often help regulate each other by asking their classmates how they are using their tech tools.

“Through this process, my students learn collaboration, perseverance, problem solving, tons of new technology, and how to handle disappointment and excitement. In everything we do, we are aware of our learning because we use the design process with our growth mindsets, ” said Mrs. Peddie.
